Things To Do in Fermoy

Things to do in Fermoy

Fermoy is a small town (population approx. 5,000) situated in the centre of the lush Blackwater Valley. Renowned for inland fishing it is an attractive base from which to explore the history and amenities of north and east Cork.

Fermoy is ideally situated for visits to the many fine country houses and gardens in the area, historic sites, castles and places of archaeological interest. In fact, Fermoy is surrounded by villages, each with something unique and interesting to offer: Kilworth with its castle and crafts centre, Glanworth with its castle, woollen mills and megalithic tomb. Further castles can be found in Ballyhooly, Castlelyons, Conna, Cregg, Castletownroche, Lismore as well as oddities like the towers of Ballysaffartmore near Ballyduff.

The area is rich in historical monuments, a reflection of its importance in former years.

"Stayed two nights recently as I was in Fermoy for a family reunion. Really enjoyed the Grand Hotel. The food was excellent and the staff are very friendly and professional. The rooms have recently undergone a face lift and they are now fresh and modern. The ground floor is fabulous, what a change from the last time we were there. Great central location and definitely value for money."
